Harry Greene

1852, San Francisco – 1933, Monterey – Community leader in the preservation of California history and landmarks, he was prominent in the protecting Colton Hall from demolition, he originated the Monterey & Fresno Railroad Company, invested in the Bank of Monterey, and the Monterey Light and Improvement Company. He built his home, the Harry Greene Mansion in 1886, and the island at Lake El Estero was named in his honor.
