Colonel Roger S. Fitch


1877 – 1955 – His distinguished military career began with Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders, and ended in Monterey where he commanded the Monterey Presidio’s 11th Calvary from 1928 until he retired in 1930. Recalled to active duty after Pearl Harbor, he commanded Fort Ord until his final separation in 1943. He was active in the Monterey community, serving as President of the Monterey History & Art Association, founding member of the Monterey Foundation that was responsible for Monterey’s original Path of History.
