For the entire weekend, the “Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War” will camp at the Lower Presidio Historic Park. Tents and artifacts of the Civil War and the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) will be on display. For more information call 831-422-3619 or visit www.suvcw.org.

The California Historical Artillery Society (CHAS), one of the largest mounted artillery units in the United States, is joining the Civil War encampment. CHAS has been recognized as one of the most authentic and highly trained horse drawn artillery unit in the country.

Join a U.S. Army historian on a van tour of the upper Presidio with its historic cavalry-era buildings. See the Buffalo Soldier Barracks, Soldier Field, Fort Mervine, the Sloat Monument as well as the modern school and Berlin Wall Monument. Limited space – please call for reservations.

Join the City’s Historian to visit the historic sites of the Lower Presidio Historic Park, some of the most historic sites on the West Coast of the United States. Visit the sites of explorer Vizcaino's landing, Portola and Serra's founding of Monterey for Spain, Argentine revolutionary Bouchard’s attack on Monterey, first burial of the first non-Native American, the fortifications El Castillo and Fort Mervine, and the Father Serra and Sloat Monuments.

  Nibon-Machi - Japantown in Monterey

This lecture/walking tour is an overview history of the Japanese on the Monterey Peninsula, and showcases the new Japanese Heritage Center. Tour includes the neighborhood that was once Monterey’s own nibon-machi, or Japan Town as well as a visit to the Monterey waterfront and Wharf.
