HOW TO VOLUNTEER
You don’t have to be a professional historian, curator or ranger to help other people enjoy Historic Monterey — you just need to have a willing pair of hands, some time to spend, and an enthusiasm for our projects and properties.
For example, the City of Monterey is often looking for volunteers to help staff the California Room at the Library, where it maintains its extensive collection of Monterey-related materials, for docents and guides at the Presidio Museum and Colton Hall Museum, and for assistance at special events like ‘Living History Day’.
Monterey History & Art Association welcomes volunteers as Watchstanders in the Maritime Museum, docents at Casa Serrano, and special events assistants. If you have special interests or skills, you might help catalogue historic documents at Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library, help restore historic clothing, or even keep their historic buildings in good working order. Call 831-372-2608 extension 13 for details.
Monterey State Historic Park needs volunteers at the Cooper Museum Store, living history programs and special events, including "Christmas in the Adobes", school group hands-on programs, and more. For more information and to request a volunteer application, please call 831.649.7109 or 831.649.7118 or visit the website to learn when the next training is scheduled.
